GSSI Public Stakeholder Update
Tue 21 March 2017, 09:00 – 10:00 EDT
JOIN THE GSSI STAKEHOLDER UPDATE IN BOSTON
In 2012, global retailers reported that their buyers were facing over 140 seafood ecolabels and certification schemes. Businesses, NGOs, governments and the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the UN (FAO) responded to this need for clarity and transparency in certification and formed GSSI. In 2013 GSSI introduced its concept of developing a non-competitive approach to solving the proliferation of eco-certification schemes based on the internationally accepted FAO Guidelines.
Much has happened since: GSSI launched its Global Benchmark Tool in late 2015. In 2016 certification schemes signed up to benchmarked. The Alaska RFM program and the Iceland Responsible Fisheries Program became the first to achieve GSSI recognition. Major buyers have started to include GSSI recognition as a key element of their sourcing policies and seafood businesses from around the world are joining the GSSI Partnership. With the Benchmark Process in full swing and growing international support, GSSI is off for a strong start in 2017.
You are warmly invited to join our annual Stakeholder Update in Boston to receive a copy of the 2016 GSSI Annual Report and learn more about the latest developments and what is next for GSSI.
Hot beverages will be served starting at 8.30am.
