If you have always dreamt of visiting the Caribbean, but were never quite sure how to go about it, this is your chance to discover and experience the myriad of landscapes and experience the best it has to offer food-wise through the eyes of an insider.

You will be traveling with author Vanessa Bolosier, a Guadeloupe native who now spends her time between Guadeloupe, Martinique and London exploring and documenting life, history and culinary practices of the region.

A born storyteller, Vanessa will make you feel, breath, and experience the local food and the magnificent surroundings - sharing secrets and stories privy only to locals and experts.

Lead with his unique approach, knowledge, and deep understanding of the region, you will not only feel at home in Guadeloupe but fall in love with it.

Guadeloupe Food Adventure 2015

Experience an unforgettable adventure across the 5 islands of Guadeloupe on a carefully curated expedition lead by Creole Kitchen’s author, Vanessa Bolosier.

Indulge yourself with 6 nights and 7 days of total foodie paradise, cultural immersion, boat rides hoping from one island to the other, and refreshing dips in the Atlantic Ocean.

Day 1

Guests are all picked up at the airport and Vanessa receives guests at the beautiful private villa on the hills of Saint Anne. Overlooking the Atlantic ocean, the villa boasts some traditional Creole colonial features and offers a refreshing and sun-drenched redoubt from the hustle and bustle of the super busy days Vanessa has planned for the trip.

Evening

To commence the journey, join your host Vanessa Bolosier for an evening of introductions over cocktails and dinner at the villa with a local private chef and local entertainment.

Day 2

Morning

After a copious breakfast at the Villa embark on the first adventure and meet a local gastronomic chef that allies the most prestigious cooking techniques and local ingredients to create a Creole Nouvelle Cuisine. After a demo and Q&A we enjoy a gastro lunch.

Afternoon

Under the guidance of Vanessa Bolosier, discover the largest memorial in the Caribbean dedicated to the History of the Triangular Trade. Built on the site of the old Darboussier distillery, the Caribbean Centre of Expression and Memory of Slavery & the Slave Trade will give insight on the ethnology, social anthropology aspects of the triangular trade and the heritage from it in the local history of the arts.


Evening

Finally, we regroup with the local at one of the very rustic, local grill chop bars for generous dinner of mixed meats, fish and seafood.

Day 3

Morning

After enjoying a gourmet breakfast at the villa, head to the Basse Terre island to visit one of the oldest distilleries in Guadeloupe. Then move on to a domain nestled on the slope of the Soufriere – the island’s sulfur volcano - and learn about ancient traditional living conditions port-slavery and discover part of the biosphere of the island. Be welcomed to an open-air lunch” at a “table d’hôte” with a Creole feast you can only have in the Guadeloupe countryside.

Afternoon

Head back to the south of the island and stop at the cocoa museum to learn more about this patrimonial cultivation that was long lost but is now being revived.

Evening

Head back to the villa to dress up and head to “1973 Food and Sound” - a super trendy pop up restaurant - in the roughest part of Pointe à Pitre the main town of Guadeloupe.

In order to revive the area that was being left to rot, a cluster of restaurateur decided to refurbished colonial houses into cultural hubs where the local celebrities and politicians meet for intimate invitation only dinners. Bespoke cocktails, creole jazz and an ever-changing menu ensure a lovely evening for all.

Day 4

Morning

A didiko will be served on the terrace of the villa at 10 am before we head to the old town of Pointe à Pitre where we’ll visit the spice market, check out some street art and traditional street dance, gwo ka music and dance etc.

Afternoon

Take a trip to one of the oldest ice-cream makers of the island that ally unconventional flavours and bring them together under very creative names. We will get access to their factory and see the manufacturing process as well get a full tasting of the range.

Evening 

Enjoy the island sunset on the terrace of a gastronomic restaurant

Get your hands dirty in the kitchen with your own private cooking class introducing creole classics.

Day 5

Morning

A super early breakfast before we head to the mountains, sink deep and get showered by the purest waterfalls on the island, learn about the ecosystem, forest-grown spices and a bit of Amerindian history.

Afternoon

After crossing the luxuriant hilly forest, enjoy a fantastic lunch in town in Bouillante within feet of the oceans. Then, visit Deshaies, the jardins de valombreuse and witness a sunset on “La perle” Beach, one of the most beautiful one on the island

Evening

Enjoy some street food with the locals before heading back to the villa

Day 6

Morning

Take an early boat to Marie-Galante at 7am to arrive at 9am and head to some of the best distilleries in the world. Learn about the unique rum production process that makes their rum some of the best and enjoy impromptu rum tastings.

Afternoon

Enjoy freshly caught fish at a restaurant with your feet literally in the ocean. Head back to town while making a stop at the beach for a quick dip and grab some local specialities like trickle syrup Danish called caca-boeuf

Day 7

Visit small producers of honey and vanilla in Saint Francois, eat at la rhumerie du pirate, one of the most popular eateries among the locals. Visit the “Pointe des Châteaux” and climb all the way to the calvary for unspoiled views of the island.

Evening

Dinner at the “Zawag” and Creole jazz gig at the Creole Beach Hotel.

Day 8

Breakfast at the villa. Check in at the airport. Lunch at downtown underground restaurant in a cave, Gwot la. Last minute shopping, spa/beach for those who need it a car will be made available in groups. Drop off at the airport.

 

Vanessa Bolosier

Vanessa is passionate about her island, its food culture and history. Her work in the last decade has caused her to meet the most interesting characters, remote and beautiful and untouched parts of the island often outside the tourist tracks. Her unprecedented knowledge and understanding is the key to experiencing a unique, inspiring, and fun adventure. Her cookery book, Creole Kitchen is an introduction to not only the food but also the culture of Guadeloupe and Martinique and her work has been reviewed and in The Guardian COOK, Waitrose Weekend, Waitrose Kitchen, Sainsbury’s Magazine among many others. She’s currently working on her second book.

Cancellations made 80 days prior to the trip will be refunded 100%, minus the cost of the local travel (boat)

Cancellations made 60 days prior to the trip will be refunded 50%, minus the cost of the local travel (boat)

Cancellations made less than 30 days prior to the trip will not be refunded 

*Please note in case of cancellation, you will pay the cancellation fees

**Please note that a minimum of 6 people by 17 October, 2015 is required in order for the trip to take place. In case we don't meet the minimum amount of people, ASW will have to cancel the trip and will issue a refund to all members who purchased their package
