About this event

Six months into the Israel-Gaza war, the reverberations of the conflict are being felt across the region. An escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, involving both sides trading fire across the border with Lebanon, has raised the threat of a new war. In Yemen, the Iran-backed Houthis have been attacking ships in and around the Red Sea, while in Iraq, armed militias also linked to Tehran have attacked bases hosting US forces.

Amid this volatile environment, how will the tensions play out and can a broader conflict in the Middle East be averted? What might the potential consequences be on the global stage? And what impact will the situation in the Middle East have on the forthcoming elections in the US and the UK?

Join Devika Bhat, the Guardian’s deputy head of international news, as she chairs a panel, with Peter Beaumont, the Guardian’s senior international reporter, Ghaith Abdul-Ahad, Guardian reporter, and Emma Graham-Harrison, senior international affairs correspondent. They will discuss this fast-developing story and the increasingly challenging situation in the Middle East in this livestreamed event.
