Event description

Description

Join indigenous leaders from Latin America, Indonesia and Africa as they arrive in London on 24 October, on their journey to the COP23 UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn.

Hear how indigenous people's protection of the world's forests is vital to combat climate change, yet they are being murdered and criminalised as they fight the increasing threats to their lives, rights and the planet's last large forests.

Support their calls for an end to violence, criminalization and murder; recognition of their rights to territory and consent; climate finance and a voice in climate change strategies.

09:30 Press Conference, Royal Society, Carlton House
10:30 Panel Discussion: Indigenous Partners, Global Witness, Ford Foundation & Special Guests
11:45 Demonstration, Parliament Square: To commemorate those who have lost their lives defending the forests, and pledge protection for the Guardians of the Forest.

New research will be released from leading human rights organisations suggesting indigenous communities are least likely to receive climate finance but most likely to be under threat - sometimes from projects aimed at solving climate change.
