About this event

Ever wondered how dogs become Guide Dogs?

Join us for a behind-the-scenes experience of Guide Dogs Regional Centre Scotland - an unmissable opportunity to explore the fascinating journey of a guide dog from the very beginning. You may even get to see some of our incredible dogs in training as they learn the skills needed to become future life-changers – though this is subject to availability.

During the experience, you will be placed into small groups and guided around the state-of-the-art facility by our knowledgeable team of volunteers who will be able to share with you the secrets of our life-changing dogs. You’ll also discover fascinating information about the important work of the charity – which enables people who are visually impaired to lead independent and fulfilling lives.

The tour will last approximately 2 hours and will include:

• a tour by expert guides

• possible viewing of our Guide Dogs in training (subject to availability)

• a sensory experience and a chance to walk with mobility aids

• a demonstration of guide dog equipment such as harnesses

• a visit to our gift shop for that memorable souvenir of your visit

• teas & coffee will be provided at the end of the tour

This tour involves a moderate amount of walking and standing, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for an enriching journey on your feet. There are some chairs along the route, but not in all areas of the tour.

Please keep in mind that our tour involves in-depth discussions and explanations, which might not be suitable for very young children. We want every participant to fully enjoy and appreciate the experiences, so we recommend considering the interest level of your little ones before joining us.

Organized by

The National Centre (NC) breeds up to 1500 puppies each year at our state of the art facility, with fantastic facilities for staff, volunteers and our dogs, enabling us to carry out research and produce quality puppies to change the lives of blind and partially sighted people.

Our breed stock dogs live in the homes of our volunteers, and visit the centre for breeding, boarding, and occasionally to have their puppies. All of the puppies we breed visit us at 6 weeks old before going to live in the home of a volunteer puppy raiser for a year. Visitors can see and learn about this working site as we carry out our daily work.
