About this event

Travel & Outdoor • Other

Bats are mysterious and elusive creatures, sometimes very hard to see ... but with the right equipment, you can find them and identify them. Bat walks with an experienced leader are a great way to do this.

The walk will be a maximum of 15 people, so that everyone gets a good chance to participate.

The Walk

Meet at the entrance to the Fishing Lake on Gillians Way. The walk leader will have a bat detector and will give an introductory talk 15 minutes before the actual walk starts. If you have a bat detector & any level of expertise, or are just curious & want to learn, you will be welcome.

We will be walking around the Fishing Lake and then up to The Folly to try and see a range of different bat species.

What you need to bring:

Please be sure to wear weather appropriate clothing – warm and waterproof – and bring a torch or a headlamp of some kind.

We might encounter stinging nettles or brambles, so trousers rather than shorts or leggings. We’ll be walking on unpaved public footpaths or permissive paths, these may be uneven, muddy, there could be stiles and livestock, and paths may be obstructed by sticks etc. It will be dark! Good footwear (shoes, boots, maybe wellies if its been wet) are important. Please note that the path to The Folly is fairly steep.

Participation in these walks is free of charge. Participants are expected to take appropriate care to protect their own safety and that of others.

All ages and abilities welcome!

The walk is child - friendly but will involve being out after dark and walking a mile over rough ground in the dark. Please book a ticket for each child. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Weather Dependant:

Note that if the weather is not suitable, then the walk may need to be cancelled. You will be notified via Eventbrite if this happens.

Need to cancel?

If you book, and find later you cannot make it, please cancel so others have a chance to join us.
