Event description

Description

Join Oot'n'Aboot on the train across the famous Forth Bridge then return to South Queensferry by foot across the Forth Road Bridge. Our walk will take in an amazing view of the iconic rail bridge from the village of North Queensferry, then a walk across the 1964 suspension bridge. This bridge is now closed to vehicles (except public transport) and we will be able to have a good look at the newly opened Queensferry Crossing - the worlds biggest 3 tower cable stay bridge at the time of opening in 2017. We are proud of our bridges as they map our industrial and engineering history. Find out more about the bridges, the river and the history of the twin burghs of North and South Queensferry.

Fresh Air Friday walks are designed to encourage people who prefer to walk with company at a slower pace to get out and explore some of the fantastic places there are to see in the countryside around Edinburgh. Our walks are 1-2 hours long, using good footpaths / pavement and at a gentle pace with plenty of breaks (and often a cuppa enroute!)

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

We will start our walk at North Queensferry Station 9.45am. You can join us at Dalmeny Station in South Queensferry to 9.15am to catch the train together, or you can take the train from Waverly Station in Edinburgh and join us at the start of the walk. There is some car parking (paid) at Dalmeny Station for those travelling by car. Alternatively South Queensferry is accessible by Lothian bus, then it's a short walk to the station.

What can I bring into the event?

Please wear comfortable shoes - this walk will be on paved paths, and dress for the conditions. Even on a sunny day it can be a bit windy on the bridge so a windproof layer and hat is recommended.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

You can email us at annette@ootnaboot-edinburgh.co.uk
