Guided Drawing Workshop with Laxmi Hussain, inspired by the Penguin Archive

We're very excited to welcome artist Laxmi Hussain to Lala Books for an intuitive drawing workshop, drawing upon the iconic Penguin Archive's short books for inspiration.

Limited to a small group of ten participants, Laxmi will lead a relaxed, practical session to build intuitive drawing skills, irrespective of experience. The evening will begin with a quick look at a selection of the iconic red and white small books from the Penguin Archive (participants can select two to take home), then move into warm-ups, exercises and short prompts that help you trust your eye and hand. No prior experience is needed, and all materials are provided. You will create personal artworks and learn methods you can use at home.

Laxmi Hussain is a London-based artist whose drawings and paintings often encompass free-flowing organic forms of the body through intricately ordered patterns. Trained in architecture before turning to art, her practice sits between abstraction and observation and spans paintings, drawings and public projects. She has exhibited extensively across the UK and has been featured in Vogue, Elephant Magazine, and Stylist Magazine, among others. She has led previous workshops at the Tate Modern, Westminster Abbey and the Royal Academy of Arts.

What's Included?

A 90 minute session with Laxmi Hussain, two books from the Penguin Archive, all drawing materials (you are welcome to bring a favourite pencil or sketchbook), and a glass of wine or non-alcoholic option on arrival.

Do I Need Experience?

No! This workshop is for anyone curious about drawing, from complete beginners to regular sketchers.
