Guided Run - Cader Idris via Mynydd Moel
Sat 27 May 2017, 11:00 – 15:00 BST
South Snowdonia is fast becoming the UK capital for the trail running enthusiast. If you have ever fancied getting off the beaten track in your trail shoes and exploring the hills, and don’t yet feel you have all the skills to stay safe, or you just fancy brushing up on them, then why not join us for a guided run?
At 893m Cader Idris is one of the iconic mountain peaks in this part of North Wales. This run brings you in from the wild East side. Starting and finishing in Dolgellau we take a mixed route up to Mynydd Moel, then along the ridge to the summit of Penygadair. From here we descend back to the town via the Ras y Gader fell route.
The route has amazing distance views North into the Rhinog, East into the Aran, South into Plynlumon and the Tarrens, and West to Cardigan Bay, as well as the views on Cader itself.
Throughout this journey there will be opportunities to practice Navigation skills. So this is a great follow up/refresher for those who have been on one of our Navigation courses.
Although we love dogs, we do not allow them with us on this run. Due to the nature of the route we cannot guarantee that we will complete the journey as planned; though we’ve only turned back once so far in a hail storm!
Who is it for?
Adventurous runners who are comfortable with 20km/12 miles, on some technical ground. Please be aware this run involves a height gain of more than 1000m so is physically tougher than most half marathons.
Level: Intermediate and Above
Equipment: You should aim to be self sufficient on this run. We’ll be checking you have full body cover (wet and wind protection), shoes suitable for mountain running and hill food and drink before we set off.
For navigation practise a map and compass is needed.
