About this event

Community • Heritage

The garden has many special and unusual trees, part of the original planting in 1909 and now mature.

Join arboriculturalist Marco Bartolini on a tour of the garden to discover which trees were planted in the garden and perhaps gain an understanding of what they may have been chosen for.

Trees are often looked upon as inanimate objects. Trees perform a function in the garden and the wider landscape and by understanding the traits they have, you can begin to appreciate their importance as living organisms.

Following a successful military career spanning 31 years and culminating with an award at the Queen's Birthday Honours, Marco Bartolini studied at Sparsholt College and achieved a degree in Wildlife and Countryside Management with Portsmouth University. Marco continued studying arboriculture at Westonbirt Arboretum finally becoming an Arboricultural Consultant in 2011. Marco has worked with Oxford University, supports Forest Research projects and manages trees for national gardens such as Exbury Gardens, Hillier Gardens and the National Memorial Arboretum.
