Event description

Description

This tour takes a deep dive headlong into the vat of brewing and drinking history. Our 90-minute guided walk led by an official Camden Tour Guide will examine original sites of breweries and beershops, learn how local taverns were turned into Victorian drinking palaces and consider what is happening with pubs today.

This walk will take us around Fitzrovia which is a veritable treasure trove to pub historians. We will see the work of the best Victorian pub architects, a practically intact Georgian street, and visit a craft beer pub. We will discuss the evolution of the bar, talk about what happens upstairs, consider the drinking habits of women and children, and discuss famous pubs and their more famous clientele.

Our first stop will be looking at the Fitzroy Tavern, 16 Charlotte St, Fitzrovia, London W1T 2LY. You may want to visit or have a drink there before we head out on the walk. Our final stop will be the Wheatsheaf Pub on Rathbone Place.

Please meet the group outside the Fitzroy Tavern on the corner of Charlotte Street and Windmill Street
