Join Freshwater Habitats Trust colleagues for an morning Guided walk near Ashurst with Clive Chatters on August 20th, 2025 at 9:30 AM until roughly 12:30 PM. We will meet around Ashurst train station (W3W: potions.list.heartless) Parking is available at the train station, this walk is also accessible via train and bus routes. We recommend utilising public transport and car sharing wherever possible.

Clive Chatters, local conservationist and verderer, will lead the walk and share his fascinating insights about the local flora and fauna as we explore a variety of habitats.

This is a great opportunity for any early-careers conservationists to deepen your understanding of the New Forest habitats, rare species, and the challenges of managing this nationally important landscape.

The aim of this walk is to spark curiosity and conversation, so come along with your questions and your enthusiasm!

Accessibility Considerations

Parking is available at the train station, this walk is also accessible via train (routes from Bournemouth and Southampton available) and bus routes. We recommend utilising public transport and car sharing wherever possible.

Please note that there are no toilet facilities available during this walk. Attendees must be comfortable with walking for 2 to 3 hours, we will stop throughout the walk to look at and discuss Forest features.

We will be walking across the New Forest, as such the ground may be uneven and wet or boggy in some areas, though we will avoid areas of deep bog and dense vegetation.

PLEASE NOTE: This event may be cancelled or rescheduled in the event of poor weather conditions.

What do I need to bring?

  • Sturdy footwear e.g. walking boots
  • Suitable clothing e.g. waterproofs, layers (hats, coats, jumpers), sun cream
  • Notetaking equipment (e.g. pen and paper) if desired
  • Any medications you require
