Event description

Description

Are you a Friend of the Heart of England Forest? If so, please join us for an exclusive 3 hour wander around Spernal Park a mature woodland area of the Heart of England Forest rarely accessed by the public.

Led by Forestry Officer Will Taylor, who knows this part of the Forest inside and out, this walking tour will give you the opportunity to hear first hand how we grow and maintain your Forest while strolling through areas of both mature and newly created broadleaf woodland. See evidence of natural regeneration, enjoy a glorious display of bluebells, keep an eye out for deer, smell the wild garlic and listen out for chiffchaffs and jays in the trees above.

The route will also explore coniferous woodland planted by the Forestry Commission in the 1960's and how this woodland has varied over the years. Once on the top ridge of Spernal Park you will be able to look down into the marl pits, as well as taking in the far reaching views across your developing Forest and the surrounding landscape.

This is a truely unqiue walk, which is steep in some places, and exclusively for our Friends of the Forest who are welcome to join us for a hot drink and cake at the end. Each Friendship can book 2 places which are limited so book early.

New Friends of the Forest are welcome - Click here to become a Friend of the Heart of England Forest, so you too can come along.

Suitable footwear and outdoor clothing appropriate for the weather should be worn. We suggest bringing a bottle of water and binoculars. Dogs on leads are welcome. Details of our meeting & parking point will be sent out nearer the event.
