Event description

Description

For the first time we are offering a guided walk around the coniferous woodland of Coughton Park.

Join Head Forester Stephen Coffey to see how, having taken ownership in 2009, we started felling and replanting this once commertial timber plantation with native broadleaf trees six years ago. Stephen will point out the changes that such a conversion has brought about, while explaining why we are not intending to replace it all to our usual native species.

This easy going route will allow you to experience both types of woodland and will include seeing rare warwickshire heath and heather, as well as looking out for the Silver-washed fritillary Butterfly, reptiles and deer. Last year Coughton Park was given local wildlife site status, identified as once of the best acid woods in the country.

Home to our Volunteer Hub the tour will also take in the tree nursery which was established in 2012 and this year proudly provided us with 28,000 of the oak tree whips we planted at the beginning of the year.

While we do not set a ticket price for this event we kindly request that a minimum donation of £5.00 per adult is made. This will allow us to cover any costs and continue with our work and offering these guided walks through the Heart of England Forest.

Please remember to bring suitable footwear for walking off the beaten track on uneven ground. Also remember to bring some water and dress appropriatly for whatever the weather demands!

Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs on leads are welcome.
