Guided Walk to the Abandoned Township of Rosinish
Join us for a guided walk to the abandoned township of Rosinish, a hidden gem on the island with deep historical roots.Once a refuge during the Highland Clearances, Rosinish was home to families who sought shelter and built lives in the rocky landscape. Today, the quiet ruins offer a powerful window into the past. As you explore the site with a local guide, you’ll hear stories of hardship, resilience, and connection to the land – a moving tribute to the people who once lived there.
Our trail also takes us to the very spot where the S. S. Politician ran aground in 1941 – the shipwreck that inspired the book and film-Whisky Galore. As we stand near the shoreline, you’ll hear how this event captured the imagination of the island and the world, as crates of whisky sparked a tale of mischief, community, and island ingenuity that still makes people smile today. This walk offers a unique blend of solemn history and local legend, set against Eriskay’s breathtaking coastal scenery.
