Frequently asked questions
Yes. Pay & display parking is available at North Beach Car Park (FY8 2TR). The car park accepts cash and card payments.
Please check you are in the right place. Many people confuse North Prom & North Beach car parks. Check you are NOT at North Prom Car Park (which is close to the pier). You should be at North BEACH car park which is off Clifton Drive North & close to the coastguard station & Beachcomber café.
Suitable clothing for walking outdoors in the predicted weather (don't forget your coat and waterproofs if it's going to be wet and your sun cream/hat if it's going to be sunny!) Please wear sturdy footwear (e.g. walking boots) for walking along the dunes and beach.
Change for the car park and toilets, binoculars (if you have some, if not - don't worry), a drink and snacks.
Toilets are located on North Beach Car Park at the start & end location of the walk. Please use the facilities before the walk starts as there will not be opportunity to use the toilet during the walk. The toilets are owned by Danfo & require 40p to access. The toilets accept cash or card payments.
The walks are free but we always greatly appreciate a small donation towards the conservation efforts of the Fylde Sand Dunes Project.
The success of these guided walks hugely depends on attendance. If you can no longer attend, please cancel your tickets via EventBrite or email apennington@lancswt.org.uk (email address is not monitored at weekends).
Our wildflower walks take place once a month mid-week from April to July. We also offer more general sand dune guided walks on the first Sunday of each month, covering local history, coastal habitats, wildlife, and the conservation work of the Fylde Sand Dunes Project.
We'd love to hear from you! Please email: apennington@lancswt.org.uk
The walks last approximately 2 hours in a loop from North Beach Car Park. The walk might be slightly less if the weather is poor, or alternatively, if it's a nice day, there's lots to see & people have lots of questions, we might run slightly over. We would recommend putting 3 hours on the car park.
Our wildflower walks are designed for adults, as they run mid-week & focus on plant identification. Children are welcome, but the 1.5-mile route is on uneven ground & may be challenging for younger children. Families may find our other guided walks on the first Sunday of each month more suitable.
Generally, we go ahead with 99% of our walks. If the weather forecast is so bad that there is a H&S risk, we will cancel your tickets via EventBrite - please check your email.
All our updates go on our social media platforms. Please follow "Fylde Sand Dunes" on Facebook or Instagram.
