Practical guidance on planning the development & career plans of PGRS

This workshop is aimed mainly at new supervisors and those supervisors who are new to the University of Portsmouth however other supervisors are also welcome to attend.
Participants will explore effective mechanisms of guiding and monitoring their PGRS’ training, development and career planning to ensure that they are able to identify, and participate in, relevant and timely development opportunities. This workshop will provide participants with an understanding of the drivers for comprehensive training and development for PGRS, including the RCUK statement of expectations for doctoral training, the Researcher Development Framework and the employability landscape for doctoral graduates.
In addition, relevant sources of support for PGRS will be discussed. The career opportunities available to PGRS, including those outside academia, and the experience and skills required by employers of doctoral graduates will be discussed, and participants will be encouraged to consider how to effectively support their PGRS in planning their career.
PLEASE NOTE: This event is currently open only to Portsmouth University affiliated staff.

Taken as a whole these sessions are about the professionalisation of supervision in the university, and sharing your knowledge and experiences in a supportive environment. If you are currently supervising students, the university expects you to undertake at least one session of supervision development during the year (even if it is not through one of these Graduate School events). With an average evaluation rating of 4.5/5 across the sessions, I hope you’ll also find them well delivered and entertaining!
