How do I travel to the event?

Due to limited car parking, we would prefer if people travel on public transport or walk to the event.  The venue is on a main bus route and is in easy walking distance from the bus station in Blyth. Parking available on Broadway Field & 11th Avenue Sports Field, both a short distance away.

Is there disabled access?

Accepted Answer

The venue is fully accessible with a ramp to the main doors and disabled toilets.  We have Disabled Parking on site & you will be guided to the main entrance by a Steward, please arrive between 12-1pm.  If you need disabled parking, please let us know, as there is limited space available.

What are the costume requirements?

Guinness World Record requirements are STRICT.  Every person must be wearing (not holding) a 5 POINTED STAR which covers the TORSO (main part of body). The only colours allowed are WHITE, GOLD, SILVER, YELLOW. We will send you instructions as there are 3 styles permitted.

Do I have to make my own costume?

Accepted Answer

You can make your own costume, it must meet the GWR requirements (see above). It's easy to make from flattened cardboard boxes, cut into the shape of a 5-pointed star covered with material or tin foil and with a strap to hang round your neck. We'll also have stars for those who have requested them.

What time does it start?

Accepted Answer

Event starts at 12 noon with a family fun day, everyone participating in the GWR must arrive at Blyth Rugby Club by 1pm  to enable us to check costumes & give out wristbands. The actual World Record Attempt will take place between 2pm and 2.30pm. Event close 5pm however the bar will still be open.

What FREE entertainment is there?

There will be two Bouncy Castles (little ones and bigger kids) plus Inflatable Slide, Sideshow Games, Live Music, Face Painter (simple stars designs only). There will be paid activities including Ellen's Lucky 7 Tombola, Raffle Prize Draw  and Local/Craft Stalls.

What FREE refreshments are there?

Children under 16 years old will be be given a free hot dog and soft drink. There will be free tea/coffee and biscuits for all participants. There will be refreshments that you pay for at the Club Bar, Cake Stall and Food Vans - Ren's Caribbean Food, Katie's Kitchen (Burgers etc), Ice Cream Van.

Can I invite other people?

Yes, of course - the more the merrier! We ask that you register all people that are in your party as we need to keep a check on numbers and if you require a costume we will need to take sizes. If you're bringing children we need to know no. for food and soft drinks - we don't want to run out!

Question 9

Can I just turn up on the day?

Accepted Answer

Yes you can. However if you require a costume from us or if you are bringing children and require food then PLEASE REGISTER as we cannot guarantee we will have  a star costume available or refreshments for your children. Everyone is welcome though so please do come along.

Question 10

Will the media be there?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Radio Newcastle have confirmed, and we will be inviting local newspapers, radio and TV to record this unique occasion. A drone will be flying high above recording the GWR attempt for evidence and a local photographer will be there taking snaps of you & to share on social media.

How many people will be attending?

Accepted Answer

GWR requires a minimum of 250 properly dressed, counted and recorded but we hope we will exceed this limit and hit 500 plus. This is the FIRST time this record will be set, so you will be making history!

Question 12

How will I know where to gather on the day?

Accepted Answer

When you arrive, your star costume will be checked/collected. Then you will be allocated a coloured wristband - this might be BLUE, RED, YELLOW, GREEN, GOLD. When the time comes for your colour to go to the event arena, YOUR COLOURED STEWARD will announce this lead you there and count you in.

Question 13

Do I need to wear my star costume all day?

Accepted Answer

No, you only need to wear it on entry as we have to record every person participating separately.  Then for your photo (individual/group) and when the GWR event call is announced 2pm-2.30pm. Each colour will be called to go to the arena and you will need to wear your star for this.

Question 14

How long does the GWR Official Attempt Take?

Accepted Answer

The actual recording time is only 1 minute but it will take around 30 minutes to gather everyone to the event arena and count them in. A loud horn will announce the START of the 1 Minute and a second horn will sound at the END. Then we celebrate!
