Gunpowder, Treason and Plot: The Legends and Customs of Bonfire Night

Monday 3rd November, 6pm GMT

Speaker: Icy Sedgwick

Many of us know the rhyme, "Remember, remember, the 5th of November, gunpowder, treason, and plot. I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot". But is there anything more to the customs of Bonfire Night? From penny-for-the-guy to parades and public bonfires, this talk will explore some of the customs surrounding the 5th of November. We'll also dig into a couple of the legends about the events of 5th November 1605 to see why it became such an important date in the British calendar.

This talk will be hosted via Zoom webinar. The Zoom link will be sent to your email address the day before the event (remember to check spam/junk/other folders in your inbox).

This talk is free to attend but we do ask for a suggested donation of £4. This important support allows us continue our work. We are very grateful for any support you can give!
