Guyana and Suriname Oil & Gas Webinar
Event Information
About this Event
Helping you make valuable connections in the global oil & gas sector.
The Guyana-Suriname Basin is now recognised globally as one of the key regions for offshore E&P given it has the highest drilling success rate of any frontier basin combined with break-even costs of around $35/barrel.
Developments are accelerating rapidly considering that the first discovery in Guyana was made in May 2015, and production commenced in late 2019. There have been 15 significant discoveries in Guyana over the last five years with a total estimated recovery potential of 5-8 billion barrels, whilst an extensive drilling campaign is only likely to add to these totals. Guyana’s second and third projects are scheduled to commence production in 2022 and 2023 respectively whilst it is widely anticipated that production will reach 750,000 bpd within the next five years.
Neighbouring Suriname has announced its first three offshore discoveries during the course of this year in Block 58 which lies adjacent to the prolific Stabroek Block in Guyana. Estimates forecast a total recoverable potential from Block 58 in the region of 6.5 billion barrels with first oil expected around 2026 – appraisal programmes for the first two discoveries have recently been submitted to the state oil company with the next to follow soon, whilst drilling continues apace across multiple prospects.
Oil and Gas has the potential to have a transformational impact on both economies, and it is recognised that collaboration with international partners will be crucial to maximising the potential of these resources given the lack of local experience with the offshore industry and limited capacity in the regional supply chain.
Both Guyana and Suriname held elections earlier this year and have new administrations in place that are keen to collaborate with mature markets that can support the development of the industry.
