Event description

Looking for a better-paid rope access job?

Interested in a well-paid career in the renewable energy industry?

You dream with the idea of working in renewable energy but are intimidated by the investment or lack of information about starting a well-paid career in the renewable industry. We don't blame you!

Altitec Academy runs since 2010 to at first boost our Blade Technician teams in the UK, but also to deliver skilled manpower to this fast-growing industry. To date, we continue our mission around the globe. Providing onsite training to graduates, with great potential, is what makes us different from other training providers.

The demand for skilled rotor blade technicians operating to a recognized standard is increasing in line with a growth of installations and the repair schedule from existing sites. Rotor blade technicians are working in markets all over the world, and Altitec teams have been working in UK, Ireland, Europe, South Africa, Australia, and Mexico.

The GWO Blade Repair standard is designed to achieve learning objectives in the safety and craftsmanship skills that are essential to this challenging, technical role. During the two week course at the Altitec Academy, you will learn the skills needed to get started in the industry from more than 10 years experienced supervisors and engineers in Altitec’s blade servicing team.

GWO blade repair course delegates are able to perform and document blade inspection. Course delegates will have a foundation of skills to complete repairs to damage on the blade surface, trailing edge, leading edge, sandwich panel, and bond line.

Repair work in accordance with work instruction within the following dimensions:

  • Trailing edge repairs up to 1.5m
  • Leading edge repairs up to 1.5m
  • Laminate repairs down to core material
  • Core material replacement up to 200cm²
  • Surface repair to paint and gel coat

  • Composites and blade construction
  • Health and safety

  • Materials, tools and equipment
  • Basic lamination
  • Blade inspection
  • Lighting protection system
  • Grinding and sanding skills
  • Laminate repairs and filling
  • Surface repairs
  • Trailing and leading edge repairs

At the end of the course you will be able to:

Upon completion of the GWO Blade repair training course, delegates will be able to work safely with composite materials while conducting inspection and basic blade repair procedures, thereby supporting an overall improvement of the safety for personnel with job functions focussing on composite repair work and inspection in the wind industry.

In addition, Altitec offers Onsite Training for graduates that successfully completed the GWO BR course and have relevant certificates according to specific requirements at the time. Graduates are able to apply for this once they completed the course.

The GWO blade repair training course is intented as an entry level course and therefore the delegate will not be expected to perform repairs in major structural elements of blades like spars, spar caps, and carbon fibre.
