Event description

Description

Can two men raised to fight ever learn to love?

The story of 'Gorgeous' George O’Connell, bare-knuckle fighter and traveller, who enters the world of professional boxing which puts him on a collision course with his roots, his identity and his greatest fear.

In the opposite corner, gay boxer Dane 'The Pain' Samson is fighting his own battles that lead to a tragedy that neither could predict.

A love story between two fighters who discover the greatest challenge lies outside the ring.

"There are only three things that need to be accomplished before the devil comes home: one of them is homosexuality being legal"

So said Tyson Fury, the Brit who became World Heavyweight Champion against all odds in November 2015.

Last year, boxing legend and aspiring Filipino politician Manny Pacquaio said those in same-sex relationships were "worse than animals".

In both instances these men cited their faith as the reason for their views. Gypsy Queen was born of a desire to explore such notions - sport, faith and sexuality.

Gypsy Queen will be followed by a Q & A with the performers and a short panel discussion on the key themes from the play.
