HAAF - Film Screening and Live Q&A
Event Information
About this Event
Join the filmmakers and Haaf netter for a live online film screening with Q&A on Thursday 26th November, 7pm - 8pm.
‘HAAF’ is a short new film that captures the Solway's unique fishing tradition. Haaf netting as we see today is thought to have been developed by the Vikings over 1000 years ago. The practice involves the fisherman walking far out into the middle of the Solway Firth at low tide and waiting with their nets as the tide comes in.
The hand-developed 16mm film was created by artist filmmaker Julia Parks and sound artist Heather Andrews. John Warrick and Mark Messenger - two Solway Haaf netters will join for artists for a live discussion and Q&A.
The project has been created as part of West Cumbrian Arts Council Funded project RE Drift - an artists led initiative who have been running events and activities in West Cumbria since August 2020. Sign up for the FREE.
The project has been kindly funded by Arts Council England and Full of Noises.
