Description

This qualification is aimed at individuals who are, or intend to be, food handlers working in catering. It is also appropriate for those providing services to catering premises including pest-control operators, maintenance engineers, cleaners, and laundry and delivery personnel. This course is run in a classroom setting.

Subjects covered:

  • Basic microbiology
  • Food poisoning and foodborne disease
  • Contamination and prevention
  • Purchase to service
  • Personal hygiene
  • Design and construction
  • Food pests and controls
  • Cleaning and disinfection
  • Food safety legislation

The trainers are fully qualified Environmental Health Officers who work in the field inspecting food businesses. Tutors will provide interactive activities, guidance and support to delegates in the delivery of the course.

At the end of the taught component of the course learners will sit a short multiple-choice paper examination, which will be sent off for external marking; certificates will be provided to those who pass usually within 1 month from the date of the course.

Learners must make their own arrangements for lunch, but tea, coffee and water will be available.

Learners will receive a confirmation letter and course handbook no later than 2 weeks before the date of the course.

NOTES

Terms and Conditions of Booking

  1. Payment must be made in advance of the course upon booking.
  2. No refunds will be given for cancellations made by the learner within 14 days of the start of the course unless the learner can demonstrate exceptional or extenuating circumstances.
  3. Cambridge City Council reserves the right to cancel the course in the following circumstances:
    • That the minimum number of candidates required to run the course (4) is not reached 14 days before the date of the course; or
    • There is insufficient staff provision or facilities to run the course.
  4. Should Cambridge City Council cancel the course then learners will be able to either defer to a later course date or request a full refund.
  5. A full refund of the course booking fee will be given if the cancellation is made by Cambridge City Council.
  6. A learner who is unable to attend may find someone else to substitute for them, although no refund will be made to the original applicant.
  7. All refunds are conditional to any course textbook being returned
  8. Candidates who fail the examination will be permitted to re-sit the course or exam paper for a fee.

Bicycle

Limited cycle parking is available on the street close to Mandela House opposite Sainsbury’s.

Bus

The Citi 1, 3 and 7 services all stop on Regent Street close to Mandela House.

Train

Cambridge railway station is about a 20 minute walk from Mandela House. After exiting the station proceed straight along Station Road, turn right at the traffic lights at the T-junction on to Hills Road and then carry on straight across the crossroads by the Catholic Church on to Regent Street. The Customer Service Centre is on the left-hand side of the road opposite the University Arms Hotel.

The Citi 1 and 7 services all connect Cambridge railway station to the city centre.
