Event description
A 90 minute workshop to help you become a better ally to provide a more equitable and inclusive workplace

About this Event

UPDATE: WHILE THE PHYSICAL EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED, WE WILL BE DOING A LIMITED VIRTUAL PILOT. PLEASE GET IN CONTACT IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ATTENDING

No minority has been able to make change without the help of the majority which simply highlights the role allies hold in shaping a more equal and equitable workplace.

Looking through the lens of gender, Joan C. William states that women “are 54% less likely than men to have a sponsor. That’s because men in leadership roles seek to promote those resembling themselves. On top of that, there are many unconscious biases still affecting women” (Source: HBR: What works for women at work).

Looking through the lens of ethnicity, a poll conducted by ICM in December 2018 indicated that “57% of people who identify as Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) feel they had to work harder to succeed in Britain because of their ethnicity, and 40% say they earn less or have worse employment prospects for the same reason.”

In order to take proactive steps towards solving these issues we all need allies and this workshop will explore how we can all become better allies. It will cover the importance of key skills such as cultural intelligence, cognizance of bias and empathy and it will reframe the role of privilege in terms of the responsibility it puts on each of us. We will identify the key barriers that might exist in the workplace which can be overcome through allyship and find small practical solutions (hacks) that we can start doing from tomorrow.

Expect to come away with key tips for being a better ally and helping to provide a more equitable and inclusive workplace.

As it is a pilot, please do expect to be asked for feedback at the end so we can understand how we can make it better. Feedback after all is a gift.
