Hackney Election Debate
Event Information
About this event
Please join us for an evening of election debate and discussion. The theme of the debate will be ‘What kind of neighbourhoods do we want, and who gets to decide’. We believe this will be a robust, but good natured debate, chaired by a professional and neutral chair. We will update you on further details as we have them.
This will be a discussion that really gets to the heart of what democracy and citizenship means in wards like Haggerston (home of Premises Studios), that have undergone so many changes and upheavals over the last few years. But similar issues - housing, transport, democracy and freedom - face us all.
Many voters feel increasingly powerless and disengaged from local politics. And yet we face so many important issues - demographic change, economic revival, planning, housing, generational tensions, to name a few. We need much more open and constructive debate between voters and those who we elect to represent us.
Premises Studios is one of the best known and successful businesses in Hackney. Many of the world’s most famous artists including Gladys Knight, Nick Cave, Amy Winehouse, Emeli Sande and the Arctic Monkeys have worked there as well as countless numbers of local musicians. Owner Viv Broughton has pioneered music education programmes and has been active in local business, community and environmental campaigns. Studio A at the Premises is Europe’s first fully solar powered recording studio.
Doors open at 6.30. Please use the Dawson Street entrance. We look forward to seeing you.
