Description

The walk will take in wall murals and  traces of industries, telling stories of workers, artists and residents, follow the waves of decline and renewal in the Wick's fortunes, and  the impact of the Olympic redevelopment on its future. Highlights include  Clarnicos sweet factory, 'Stinkbomb Alley' and 'Smelly Street' and King's Yard 'Water City' and energy centre; Foreman's smoked salmon plant;  the Stour St. gallery;  the Greenway and Old Ford, a pit stop at Café Greenway on Dace Rd, St, Mary's of Eton church; the Trowbridge estate,  former Parkesine, Spegelsteins –now Daro - factories on Wallis Rd, the Old boathouse and new footbridge to Olympic Park. Commentary will be interspersed with poems which echo voices, narratives and histories of the area.  We will end up at Hackney Wick station or alternatively the Wick café for further refreshment and discussion.
