Haiku in a Japanese Garden - a creative writing walkshop

  • Haiku on the Rye
  • Walk, talk, recite, write haiku
  • Foot powered poems

Free form walk in which you get to write and inspire others to write haiku. With the option to have them printed and published in a zine – as an anthology from the walkshop.

We are off to Peckham Rye that hosts not only an arboretum and beautiful sensory garden, but highly pertinent, one of London's few publicly accessible Japanese Gardens.

Haiku, the 3-line short form poem most associated with Japanese culture, are an amusing challenge to write and recite. Haiku can be read on two levels: literal and symbolic, so a simple description of a scene qualifies as much as a symbolic interpretation. You will learn the art of Japanese Haiku style writing using descriptive words with trees and nature as your influence. Suitable for complete novices or expert poets, the Haiku in a Japanese Garden walkshop will inspire you to compose and recite haiku.

Walk with us composing haiku, through one of London’s most varied parks and having fun capturing London’s woodland heritage in just 3 lines and 17 syllables.

  • Celebrating trees
  • We will be writing haiku
  • inspired by woodland

This walkshop is suitable for adults and older children (who must be accompanied) - children come free.
