Hair and Make Up on Set: A Trade Union Issue
Join Equity at Rich Mix in Shoreditch on Monday 15th September at 7pm for a screening of ‘Untold Stories: Hair on Set’ to celebrate World Afro Day.
Equity member Fola Evans-Akingbola’s documentary paints an intimate picture of the experiences of Black talent on TV and film sets, raising awareness of an issue that impacts Equity members across the industry. Global majority performers often experience substandard hair and make-up provision, sometimes leaving them with no other option but to do their own or seek provisions at their own cost. This is discrimination and cannot continue.
The film screening (45 minutes) will be followed by a panel discussion, focusing on the practical steps performers can take to improve Hair and Makeup equality through their trade union, and Equity’s efforts to address this issue by improving contracts.
After the panel discussion, drinks will be available in the bar from 9pm, so please feel free to hang around for a chat!
Untold Stories: Hair on Set is directed by Fola Evans-Akingbola & Jordan Pitt. Produced by Jordan Pitt, Lee Daley & Fola Evans-Akingbola.
