Exploring the importance of hair to identity, culture & expression.
About this event
Join Siobhan Brown (Singer, radio presenter, founder of Manukahunney & Cairde Community Choir) and Rwanda Shaw (Musician & Songwriter) in this workshop aimed at letting your hair down and learning how to show the world your authentic self.
Rwanda and Siobhan will talk about how to overcome fears, peer pressure and cultural differences in this fun but powerful workshop. We will use singing as a means of expression and learn proven techniques for the stage!
Turning Heads is an exciting project that explores the theme of hair as an important part of our identity and culture. Hair can say a lot about who we are, whether we have it or not, choose to colour or not, cover it or not. Turning Heads aims to spark conversation and challenge stereotypes while exploring the cultural and societal significance that hair has – it’s not just hair!
Turning Heads is funded by The Carnegie UK Trust’s Engaging Libraries project which supports public libraries to run community engagement activities on the research themes of health, society and culture. Other funders include Wellcome and the Wolfson Foundation.
The project is delivered by Libraries NI in partnership with Ulster University and Beyond Skin.
We are asking everyone to help make sure more events like this take place by completing a short online survey which will be posted in the chat, and emailed after the event.
All abilities are welcome with no singing experience required.
Everyone is welcome to this event. Those attending under 18 must be accompanied online by parent/guardian/youth leader.
