Description

Be a marine biologist for the day!

Expert led walking tour and rock pooling session

Join our rock pooling experts for a fabulous marine biology expedition and discover the incredible marine wildlife that Cornwall has to offer.

Children over the age of five are welcome to join us but must be continually supervised by their parent or guardian.

Walking tour led by Walk Kernow

We will meet at the beautiful Maenporth Beach to start our event. The walking tour will be led by Kelly Bennett, founder of Walk Kernow. Along with Kelly and the team we will head along the spectacular South West Coastal path towards Falmouth and to some of the country's finest rock pooling sites. Walks are approximately two miles each way across moderate terrain and if you’re lucky you may even spot our visiting dolphins as we walk this path so keep your eyes peeled!.

(NB Parking charges apply, toilets are situated near the beach and there are refreshments available from the café if you wish to arrive early – please note the café is cash only)

If you are unable to walk the 2 miles there and back please do let us know so that we can discuss alternative arrangements.

The Rock Pool Project

The Project

At the Rock Pool Project we love discovering wildlife. We a new not-for-profit community project that seeks to empower us all to improve our relationship with the marine environment by connecting science and education. We are passionate about bringing the joy of marine wildlife to everyone, in a manner that builds on our collective understanding of our precious Cornish marine natural heritage.

Rock Pool Project Sessions

Rock Pool project sessions are fun interactive activities where experts will support you to discover marine wildlife. Data collected during sessions are a vital component of the Rock Pool Project and help us to learn more about our amazing rock pool species. After enjoying one of our sessions, you will receive a personalised report of your rock pool wildlife finds and how they help our project to build a picture of our marine natural heritage.

This session

Sessions will be led by an experienced professional marine biologist who specialises in working with the public to study biodiversity. We will conduct our session at low tide during a spring tide, which will reveal unique species that are normally covered by the waves.

Should any tour be cancelled due to minimum numbers not being met, or extreme weather conditions, you will notified via your registered email address with at least 24 hours notice and be offered a full refund or a replacement tour at your choice.
