CODING IS FUN!

Class – Intermediate

Three fun programming workshops over a school half term, suitable for both children who has either completed our four basic workshops or has sufficient basic understanding of scratch. During intermediate workshops, children will complete three projects.

This ticket covers below three workshops.

PROJECTS

1) SNAKE GAME : 26/10/2020 Monday at 10:30 AM– 12:00 PM (GMT)

Children will work on this classic game on their first day of the course, stepping into complex programming concepts. Topics in this project includes:

• Conditional Blocks (IF-THEN)

• Creating variables and using them in the code.

• Object behaviour (control with arrow keys)

• Object behaviour (bounce, interact with another object, follow mouse)

• Communication between game objects (broadcasts)

• Costume and backdrop management

2) GOLF GAME : 28/10/2020 Wednesday at 10:30 AM– 12:00 PM (GMT)

On the second course children will have opportunity to create famous golf game. Topics in this project includes:

• Conditional Blocks (IF-THEN)

• Object behaviour (bounce, interact with another object, follow mouse)

• Interaction with more than one object

• New Command "Point in direction"

• Object behaviour (control with arrow keys)

3) SPACE ADVENTURE : 30/06/2020 Friday at 10:30 AM– 12:00 PM (GMT)

On the third course children will have opportunity to create this very well known space game. Topics in this project includes:

• Conditional Blocks (IF-THEN and REPEAT-UNTIL)

• Object behaviour (bounce, interact with another object, follow mouse)

• Interaction with more than one object

• Broadcasting and Backdrops

• Understanding coordinates and using them in the code.

30/06/2020 Friday at 10:30 AM– 12:00 PM (GMT)

Last 15 minutes of each session is reserved for attendees’ questions. At the end of each session, password will be provided to access that session’s web page where children will be able to review that day’s code and ask questions.

Workshop is limited to 40 participants due to interactive nature of the sessions. Please note that in the unlikely event of not having minimum of 15 attendees, tickets purchases will be refunded immediately in full.

Required: Computer with keyboard and mouse, and access to Internet to join Zoom meeting.

Materials: Kids will use online Scratch editor https://scratch.mit.edu/. Although it is possible to create a project without an account, we recommend having one before the workshop otherwise kids will not be able to save or share their projects.

Please go to https://scratch.mit.edu/ web site and create an account for your child. Once the account has been created, make sure that you have confirm the account via your email.

Your workshop leader will be sharing her desktop to lead the class. Kids will listen the leader via Zoom screen and apply same code on their Scratch account. You can use two devices one for Zoom session and one for your own Scratch session (such as an iPad and a laptop); if possible, we recommend this option for the best experience. Otherwise, you can switch between Zoom and Scratch on a single computer. If you do so, please make sure you are not on “Full Screen” mode at Zoom screen so that you will be able to switch between applications. To come out of “Full screen” press ESC button.

This is a Zoom workshop! We will send Zoom details one day before the event. Event is listed in the UK London Time (GMT). We recommend that you arrive 10 minutes prior to the start time and wait in the zoom waiting room.

For security reasons, the Zoom link to the workshop will be sent in email at 10 PM the day before the session and at 8AM in the morning of the workshop day. Please make sure to mark emails from the EVENTBRITE to avoid our email with the link to the workshop going to your JUNK folder :)
