Learn how to make these stylish bat bows in a 1 hr online Zoom workshop with Jessica Corlett. Great for decorating your outfits to add a little spook to your October wardrobe.

These easy bows can be made from materials you might already have lieing around your house or in your craft stash.

Workshop attendees will be provided with printable patterns for different sized bats. Don't worry if you do not have a printer. We will also be giving quick and easy instructions to draw your own patterns.

This workshop is for adults but crafty fashiony youngsters are welcome to join in too. Suitable for novice crafters. Whilst a needle and thread is listed on the optional materials list it is perfectly possible to make bat bows without doing any sewing at all.

Materials needed for the workshop:

• Fabric scraps - such as felt, leather, denim. Check out 'Top Tips' lower down for more ideas.
• Strong glue or glue gun
• Scissors

Optional materials:

• Brooch backs, hair clips, head band, keyring.
• Needle and black thread - might come in handy.
• Decorative bits – such as sequins, sparkles, googly eyes. Who doesn’t love googly eyes right? Wait… hang on….. I’m supposed to be pretending this is a super chic fashion project. Whoops!

The Teacher

Jessica Corlett is a full time professional Arts & Events Coorindinator based in London, UK. She has worked in film and television for the likes of Disney, Warner Bros and the BBC as well as for theatre and the UK fashion industry. Her specialism is textile and fashion workshops and events with historical and cute concepts. She runs the Otome Sewing Bee which is a J-fashion and pretty vintage crafts and dressmaking club.

Top Tips for fabric and craft supplies.

We are big on repurposing and working with materials you already have.

For the fabric for the bat bow you can use felt, leather, foam sheets, or any material scraps you have already that will not fray too easily. How about some black denim from an old pair of jeans? Or repurpose the leather from an old pair of boots or handbag. Old real wool jumpers can be hot washed to make fantastic felt.

Remember it doesn't have to be black. How about a purple sparkly bat?

Scrap leather can sometimes be picked up from Arts Recycling type schemes and projects so it is worth keeping this in mind if you like doing crafts with leather.

If you want to make a brooch but do not have a brooch back you can use a safety pin. These can almost always be found in first aid kits.

Ideas for using your bat bows.

• A bowtie for your dog
• Hanging decorations
• Attach it to a hair band or clip
• Make a brooch and pin it onto a black beret for instant stylish Halloween fashion

Most importantly…. don’t forget to come to this workshop armed with tea and biscuits. And if you want to come in your pyjamas go for it. Its an online event after all.
