About BBR

This service is free for you to access. It is funded by Cycling UK, using funding from UK Government. The UK Government, Cycling UK and Breaking Cycles CIC share aims to:

  • Encourage people who don’t cycle to have a go.
  • Encourage people who don’t cycle much to cycle more.
  • Encourage people to replace short car journeys with cycling.
  • Ensure that the bikes people are riding are safe and fit for purpose.
  • Educate people about safe and correct cycling strategies.

Cycling UK will email a short survey, which only takes a few minutes to complete, to participants shortly after you attend an event and around 3 months after that. These surveys inform data which shows the impact of our work and justifies future funding for these free events. If you need more encouragement to provide an email address that you check regularly and fill in the survey, Cycling UK send out free gifts to everyone who fills in both surveys!

Family Rides

Our Family Rides are a great way of introducing younger children to cycling. Games and activities will be incorporated into the ride to allow opportunities for those with smaller wheels and legs to catch up and for accompanying adults to discuss their solutions to getting kids involved in cycling.

Rides can vary from 1 to 6 miles, depending upon the ability of the group. We largely use traffic free, well paved paths. Where it is necessary for us to ride on the road, safe strategies for riding with young children on roads are demonstrated.

The Halloween Glow Ride is a Halloween themed Family Ride, which marks the end of our 2025 Big Bike Revival Programme.
