Halloween special - not to be missed!

Monsters, in all their terrifying glory, have preoccupied humans since we began telling stories. But where did these stories come from?

Join us for a thrilling and spooky evening with award - winning author Nick Jubber celebrating his new book Monsterland: A journey around the world’s dark imagination. From giants, dragons, and ogres, to zombies, ghosts, and demons, discover why we invent these terrifying monsters and why we celebrate these macabre and devilish stories across the world today.

In Monsterland, this epic journey takes Nick across a dozen countries and four continents, exploring where monsters come from and how they have rooted themselves into our hearts and minds.

On his travels, he discovers that the stories of the people and places that birthed them are just as fascinating as the creatures themselves.

Artfully written, Monsterland is a spellbinding interrogation into why we need these monsters and what they can tell us about ourselves — how they bind communities together as much as they cruelly cast away outsiders.

‘An exquisite, carefully assembled tapestry… I loved every page!’ -Benedict Allen

‘a tour de force. It combines scholarly folklore academia with nature writing at its best’ –Richard Hamilton ( author of The Last Story Teller)

‘A magical yet deeply human journey that will haunt you long after the final page’. - Jo Marchant (author ofThe Human Cosmos)
