Event description

Description

This feature film, directed by Dick Douglass and produced by Tom Clear, is set in modern day and follows the classical story of the Danish Prince as he vows to avenge the death of his father and uncovers the treacherous plot.

The film’s visuals benefit from the royal interior of Castle Goring where the production took place in record of time (four weekends). But the time and budget constraints (the overall production budget was less £500) did not prevent the filmmakers from delivering a solid piece of independent cinema.

"This production of Hamlet was a community project of locally based Actors, a composer and musician as well as the production crew,” says director Dick Douglass. “We had no funding for it and everybody came together co-operatively to make this Film.”

Douglass adapted the script for the screen using the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 2007 version of the play and kept the Shakespearian language.

Join the filmmakers for this special screening and find out more how they managed to adapt a masterpiece on a shoestring budget.
