Travel details

Oxford city centre and Oriel College are readily accessible by public transport from Heathrow (LHR) and London's other international airports:

The city is served by very regular buses from Heathrow and Gatwick airports, operated by the Oxford Bus Company. Oriel is a few moments from the High Street stop served by these buses, please tell the driver to stop at the Queens Lane/High Street exit (when they take your luggage and you will have to press the stop button when they announce the stop driving into Oxford): annotated workshop map with directions.

Oxford railway station is reached in under an hour from London's Paddington Station, on services operated by First Great Western. There are plenty of taxis available at the railway station; the College is 15 minutes walk from the station.

We do not advise travelling by car as there no parking available and little reasonably priced long-stay parking in the city centre. You should consider using the city's Park and Ride network.

More general information on travelling to Oxford University can be found here.

We have arranged a block booking of en-suite rooms at Oriel College  including high-speed internet, breakfast and the workshop dinner in hall at a rate of £100. For locals, dinner only will be part of a workshop fee of £30. To check in, please just go to the main entrance of Oriel College (which, as most colleges in Oxford, has no sign but just its coat of arms with three lions, don't ask why it has always been like this) and register at the Porters Lodge on the left. The college is staffed 24/7 and at night there is a bell to alert the porters but if you plan to arrive after 23:00, please contact the organisers ahead.

Additionally, there are a number of excellent hotels adjacent to the College. These include the Eastgate Hotel and the Old Bank Hotel both on Oxford's High Street.

Wifi access is available through  Eduroam, "a secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community", which would allow you to use your Eduroam wireless login throughout college (in fact throughout most of the city as there is always a college or department around).  We will also provide a local log-in for people who do not have eduroam.

If you stay in college you will also received credentials for wired high-speed ethernet in your room but please remember to bring an ethernet cable as the college cannnot provide those free of charge.

Workshop dinner

We will have a workshop dinner in the Hall of Oriel College on 27 March at 19:00.
