Hand Embroidery & Picnic at Lac Marion
Hand Embroidery Workshop by Umamade
About this event
it's time to enjoy nature and embroider outside :)
Come and spend a lovely inspiring day learning hand embroidery outdoors, without masks, too many amazing techniques to practice on a wonderful saturday afternoon
:)
Embrace your creativity. Relеаse all your thoughts, let your brain completely relax and allow your intuition to contribute to every string you take.
Through learning the basic hand embroidery techniques you will be able to refresh your old clothes instead of throwing them away or sending them to thrift stores and buying new ones.
- This workshop will be taught in English ( French depending on the group) and is designed for all skill levels - from embroidery beginners to seasonal stitchers. No previous knowledge or skills are necessary!
- All materials provided: embroidery hoops, original embroidery patterns, fabrics, needles, threads, embroidery designs.
During the workshop, you will make a sampler with different stitches that you can reference for your future projects. You will practice the most common stitches, try out different methods to embroider, and explore different textures and styles they achieve. For the sampler, Uma will provide you pattern featuring one of her original illustrations. You are welcome to bring your own ideas and designs to work on with Uma’s guidance too.
After making a sampler with different stitches, you can start a different project. Create a beautiful embroidered and unique piece that can be used as a wall hanging, a patch/ brooch. You can also bring a pillowcase or an old t-shirt or forgotten clothing etc; either it has a little hole or any unwanted logo you want to cover or just refresh with hand embroidery. Like this you can bring your creativity into an act for the ZERO WASTE movement.
About the host:
Embroidery artist and founder of Umamade.co, Uma, will run the 2,5-hour session. She re-works unused garments and second hand materials to make art & wearable accessories. She believes that, embroidery is an act of protesting the fast fashion system which creates global social and environmental injustice.
