Join me for a day of embroidered box making in beautiful surroundings. We will be stitching a small box with a hinged lid, ideal for sewing kit, gifts or just bits and bobs. The box will be about 10cm x 5cm x 4cm, covered in a beautiful printed fabric. Don’t worry about the maths, the card will be cut and ready to stitch!

The art of embroidered box making evolved from fifteenth century ecclesiastical three dimensional padded work. Daughters of affluent families would buy ready printed linen from embroidery pedlars, and the boxes were then constructed by professional joiners.

The workshop lasts from 10am to 4pm. We will be learning to construct the boxes using pre-cut rigid card as the bones and padding out the fabric to give a soft feel to the boxes.

All levels of stitchers are welcome from beginners to experts - come and try your hand at box making, a very satisfying way to spend the day.

Included

Everything required for box making is included with the provided kit containing the required card pre-cut and necessary fabric and thread. If you have some preferred scissors please bring them along. Coffee and cake will be provided from Atkinson's fabulous cafe just across the courtyard. If you're feeling a little more peckish there is a selection of soups and sandwiches available for purchase.

Travel

The workshop takes place in my lovely studio in Lancaster Castle which is easy to get to, by train, bus or car. There are plenty of pay and display spots just outside the castle.

There is a maximum of eight students to ensure everyone gets personal support.

Please use the Eventbrite cancellation button, we will refund 95% (the admin fee is 5%) up to two weeks before. Between 2 weeks and 24 hours we can offer a 50% refund, unless a suitable replacement can be found before the class. No cancellations within 24 hours of the class.
