Event description

Description

***Event postponed, new date to be announced in the summer***

Make objects that capture the imprints of tiny hands in these sessions with artists Leah Carless and Joanne Masding. Leah and Joanne will introduce your babies and toddlers to the joys of making as they feel, squeeze and mix different coloured clays to make imprints of their hands that can be turned into a range of objects.

Choose to make lightpulls, drawer handles, magnets or pendants, or leave them as palm-sized sculptures for your mantelpiece. We’ll have plenty of examples to look at for inspiration.

Once mixed and squeezed into shape, Leah and Joanne will fire and glaze the pieces, and prepare them for collection in May, ready to share with your small artists’ eager fans! Workshop tickets make great Mother's Day gifts, and the ceramic objects will be ready in good time for Father's Day.

Your ticket includes exploring and experimenting with clay and making two squeezed coloured-clay objects during the hour-long session. You’ll have the opportunity to make and buy additional pieces on the day. We can take cash and card payments. Sessions are organised so that we work in small groups with opportunity for close support from tutors, so that we can make the most of the time together and produce some exciting objects.

If you have any questions please get in touch.

Additional information:

  • This course is suitable for all levels and abilities.

  • Your work will be fired and glazed ready for you to collect.

  • It's easier to do ceramics with short nails so if you have time give them a trim before you come!

  • Modern Clay is situated at Minerva Works, a complex of various art spaces and businesses, a short walk from Birmingham city centre, on Fazeley Street in Digbeth. Unfortunately we do not currently have a working lift. Please contact us in advance if you need help accessing the workshop (located on the first floor). Pushchairs can be left on the ground floor.

What is Modern Clay Art School?

Modern Clay Art School is the educational strand of Modern Clay Co-op, designed for both adults and children. Each session is designed and led by the artists who work from Modern Clay’s studio, who are all experienced workshop leaders with Enhanced DBS checks. We aim to give all participants a high quality experience, ensuring there are never more than 6 students to 1 teacher, and always using artist-quality materials in every workshop. All materials and firing costs are included. Find out more about Modern Clay here: www.modernclay.org
