Simon Turner, SRUC Livestock Behaviour Specialist and Murray Cooper, Aberdeenshire organic farmer, head up a practical, hands-on session on condition scoring pregnant cattle and sheep with nutrition planning at Murray's Mains of Thornton farm.
Benefit from:
- A wide variety of cows to condition score
- A pen of sheep to examine
- Suggestions for planning the nutrition of your herd and flock
- One-to-one advice on scoring and decision making
Simon says, ‘Cow Body Condition Scoring and nutrition planning can lead to healthy suckler cows and better thriving calves.’
Murray adds, ‘With over 1000 breeding ewes and nearly 200 cows, we need a quick method to identify thin, overfat and well-conditioned animals.
Norvite will provide an update on Murray's feed analysis and discuss nutritional needs for the different groups of sheep.
Peter Beattie, Monitor Farm Regional Adviser comments, ‘Attendees will leave the event confident that they can condition score by hand. It’s more accurate than assessing by eye and the information can help plan the winter nutrition of in-calf cows and ewes.’

The meeting starts at 11.45am with lunch provided.
