This is an intensive, residential, practical course which is delivered by face-to-face classes at the University of Birmingham.

Normally delivered in early summer (May or June).

Note, there is a fee of £100 per student to cover part of the silicon detector and beam-time costs. This must be paid in advance to guarantee your place on the course.

Over the course of 5 days, this intensive residential programme will begin with one day of lectures interspersed with tours of the Birmingham accelerators (cyclotron and dynamitron). The lecture topics are: accelerators and detectors (2.5 lectures), nuclear electronics (2.5 lectures) and safety (1 lecture).

For the remaining four days the students will subsequently cover the following: reaction kinematics calculations, introduction to coding, data analysis and software introduction followed by set-up of electronics and detectors together with calibration. Afterwards there will be half a day for beam time leading into data analysis..

Towards the end of day five, the two groups will give a presentation on their experiment and analysis.
