Event description

Description

Step into the boots of the dashing hero and experience the power of a weapon used across the world by the British Army-the (in)famous Brown Bess Musket; the weapon that won Waterloo!

Whether you are a fan of Poldark, Sharpe, Jane Austen or history in general, this is a great chance to get your hands on heritage and embrace bygone British Culture with dramatic flair!

Join us on this experience and feel a small part of what your ancestors may have faced on the Napoleonic battlefield full of smoke and fire.

You will learn how to handle and fire the Brown Bess, as well as the later 3 band Enfield used in the American Civil War. This is all lead by our team of highly experienced and passionate Napoleonic re-enactors.

You will be shown a range of historic weapons, taught how to handle them safely, basic drills and, finally, to pull the trigger! (Please note that we do not fire projectiles)

Spaces are limited and there is no second date planned at the moment so make sure to take advantage of this opportunity!

What is Hands on Heritage: Boom!?

Hands on Heritage: Boom! is a project that aims to make often inaccessible parts of history accessible to all. We understand that many people are interested in aspects of the past but rarely get a chance to handle it.

To make this project happen Swashbuckling Cornwall launched a crowdfunding campaign with The Poly in Falmouth and secured a small amount of Heritage Lottery Funding.

There is always a risk when working with muskets or weapons of any sort. Always follow your instructor's directions. We provide all relevant protective equipment for participants.

Will I be loading the musket?

No, current laws do not permit individuals without an explosives licence to handle black powder. You will be able to run though the drill but one of our instructors will load your weapon. You will be able to cock it and fire it.
