You'll get a brief introduction and practical application of material selection, metrology, technical drawings and tolerances as well as tuition in the safe use of common hand tools. We will use these skills to construct and run a mousetrap powered toy car.

This session is suitable for students of all levels with interests in mechanical engineering hand tools, hand skills, mechanical design, manufacturing, technical drawing

Please bring with you

• a visor and face covering
• your lab coat if you have one - if you don't, one will be provided
• toe covering shoes and trousers which are required in all practical labs.

A note to students: While we start running these on-campus practical sessions, we will aim to keep changing when we run them during the week, and how often, depending on demand. Bear with us if you don't find a session time that suits you at the moment, we will endeavour to put up more dates when we can.
