About this event

Join us for a dynamic, hands-on workshop led by the highly skilled and innovative ceramicist Ashley Howard. Ashley Howard is a potter and part-time Lecturer in ceramics at the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham.

Known for his wheel-thrown forms and signature surface decoration techniques—developed and refined through years of study—Ashley combines traditional throwing with expressive surface treatments such as drawing, brushing, and printing with enamels.

This is a rare opportunity to explore creative risk-taking on the wheel, experiment with new approaches, and receive personalised guidance from a seasoned maker. This workshop is not to be missed.

Day 1

Introduction about Ashley and his work, by Ashley

Throwing exercises

· Blindfold

· Two pieces blindfold, join together

· Timed loosening up throwing (throw a cylinder in 60sec type thing)

· Part throw, then all swap places, swap places again.

· Repeat and join together

Day 2

Ashley demonstration of one of his pieces. Blow torch etc. Mixing of odd clays

· Set theme (larger ceremonial vessels? Or teapots, probably both)

· Throw with additives

· Use of heat guns/blow torches

Whether you’re looking to shake up your throwing style or explore bold surface treatments, this workshop offers the perfect space to challenge yourself under expert guidance.
