Today's Hanover Square Lunchtime Concert is given by cellist Wilbert Chan and pianist Valentina Wang performing the following programme:

Wilbert Chan is a Hong Kong-born British cellist who has performed in Asia, Europe and North America. He has participated in chamber music festivals in the USA, Italy, Germany, Austria and Bulgaria. In recent years, he has been cellist in the Durham String Quartet and currently the Myrthen Trio in London. He has previously studied with Judith Serkin and Josef Luitz in the USA and Vienna. He has also appeared in masterclasses with Adrian Brendel, Jamie Walton, Robert Levin and Ralf Gothóni. He is currently a student of Professor Tim Lowe at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and is supported by the Guildhall School Trust, Help Musicians and The Girdler’s Company Charitable Trust. He plays a 1790 John Betts cello on generous loan from a private benefactor.

Italian pianist Valentina Wang is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma in Piano Accompaniment at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where she studies with Caroline Palmer.

As a passionate chamber musician, she has had the honour of performing in some of the most prestigious venues in Italy, Spain and the UK, including Milton Court Concert Hall, Barbican Hall, Teatro Municipale Romolo Valli, Teatro Pavarotti-Freni, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Salon de Actos in Castellon de la Plana.

After graduating with honours at Istituto Peri-Merulo in Reggio Emilia in 2021, she continued her studies at Conservatorio Venezze, Rovigo, while working as a collaborative pianist at Istituto Peri and at Conservatorio Monteverdi in Bolzano. She was later selected for a traineeship in collaborative piano at Conservatorio Seguì in Castellon de la Plana, Spain.

Over the years, she studied with Roberto Prosseda, Franca Bacchelli, Enrico Pompili, and attended masterclasses held by Alexander Romanovsky, Beatrice Rana, Kostantin Sherbakov, Boris Berman, Matti Raekkallio, Simone Gramaglia and Stefano Barneschi.
