Event description

Description

The Hard Edges Scotland Report was commissioned by Lankelly Chase and supported by The Robertson Trust to bring together data and people’s experience of severe and multiple disadvantages of mental health, addiction, offending, homelessness and domestic abuse. The Hard Edges Report Scotland was undertaken by researchers in Heriot Watt University.

Some of the key points from the Hard Edges report that we would like to consider further are:

  1. The impact of poverty on the lives of people living in our most deprived communities and the pervasiveness of this that can form the basis of a catalytic impact into SMD’s.
  2. The “missed opportunities” by a range of services in adopting a prevention and early intervention approach.
  3. The need to focus on recovery, resilience and building on people’s strengths and the assets of our communities.
  4. The level of overlap between offending, addiction and homelessness.
  5. The gender difference for women who may have experience of one of the three SMD’s and in addition to this, may also experience domestic abuse and higher levels of mental health issues.
  6. The impact of adverse childhood experience and adult trauma and the links to severe disadvantages.
  7. The long shadow cast by SMD’s, both in daily life experience as well as on overall life chances and reinforcement of a sense of hopelessness as a personal and community narrative.
  8. That no one service has all the solutions, but partnership working and collaboration is key to supporting people at the right time.

This event will be an opportunity for people across Inverclyde to come together and consider the findings of the Hard Edges report for Inverclyde. It will also include four conversation cafes taking a closer look at:

  1. Poverty and SMD’s
  2. Trauma and SMD’s
  3. Prevention and Early Help
  4. Working Together

Registration will open at 9am where there will be tea / coffee. Lunch will also be provided.

If anyone has any dietary or access requirements, please let me know.
