Please note: Our workshops are for practitioners who work within any of these boroughs: Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea or Westminster.
A half day workshop for professionals on the lesser known harmful practices: Polygamy, Virginity Testing and Hymenoplasty, equipping professionals with the information and tools to identify and address them.
Aim:
- Raise awareness about Polygamy, Virginity Testing and Hymenoplasty and their legal status in the UK.
- Highlight the lived reality of women who have experienced these harmful practices.
- Equip professionals with the knowledge and tools to support individuals experiencing or at risk of Polygamy, Virginity Testing and/or Hymenoplasty.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of this session, you will:
- Understand what constitutes these practices and their implications.
- Recognise vulnerabilities and risks for women who face or are at risk of these practices
- Reflect on cultural norms and how migration has contributed to gender inequality
- Identify support pathways and interventions for those experiencing these Polygamy, Virginity Testing and Hymenoplasty.
