Harmful Practices workshop: "Honour" Based Violence and Forced Marriage
(3 hour workshop)
Our workshops are for practitioners who work within any of these boroughs; Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster.
Aim:
We aim that all professionals will leave with a good working knowledge of harmful practices, including “honour” based violence and forced marriage, and how to safely respond to cases. We will do this by covering the definitions and the different forms of violence within this, we will be looking at case studies, statistics, the barriers to seeking protection, legislation, best practice and effective referral.
Learning outcomes:
Through this session the participants will understand:
The different harmful practices being perpetrated against women and girls.
Understand the role of Al-Aman (DVIP) and other specialist services
Have a clear understanding of the power dynamics at play.
Identify the risk factors that can render women and girls vulnerable to harmful practices.
Identify the signs/symptoms that a woman or a girl is at risk of, or experiencing, harmful practice/s.
Describe the legislative and policy frameworks that exist for the prevention of harmful practices, the safeguarding of women and girls and the prosecution of the perpetrators.
Identify key referral pathways and multiagency framework
