Harmony Works is thrilled to open Canada House to the public over multiple events during the Heritage Open Days, sharing the fascinating history of this grand Victorian building and celebrating its exciting future as a new centre for youth music education in Sheffield.
This tour will visit the ground floor only, including the main hall where visitors will marvel at the beautiful domed ceiling, and can enjoy our exhibition about the past, present and future of Canada House.
Once the headquarters of the Sheffield United Gas Light Company, Canada House has had a varied past, from its role in the Second World War, its reincarnation as an 80s nightclub, and then as an all-you-can-eat Chinese Buffet in the 2000s.
Harmony Works is working to restore and revitalise the currently unused Canada House, a Grade II* listed building in the heart of Sheffield city centre, to create a vibrant and inspirational home for music education and opportunity, enriching and enhancing the lives and futures of young people and their communities across the region. An exhibition on the ground floor will bring visitors up-to-date with plans to regenerate and re-purpose the building once more.
